WATER DELIGHT FOR SPRINGFIELDS
Plans unveiled for spectacular fountains
The beautiful gardens at Springfields Outlet Shopping and Festival Gardens are set for a spectacular makeover with the installation of a series of amazing multimedia fountains, replacing some of the existing water features.
Three fountains that mix water, motion and light to create wonderful effects are being installed as part of the centre’s £11 million expansion scheme.
The main attraction is set to be the magnificent musical fountains, which will feature a wide variety of brilliantly lit water effects that will shoot, sway, twist and dance in time to music. Sitting in a prominent position at the entrance to the Festival Gardens, the high-tech fountain will follow routines from programmed CDs or live music.
Also being installed is a tubular motion fountain and the Dome of Delight. Both of these fountains will use LED lights to produce awe-inspiring, smoothly-changing colours and produce a calming and soothing effect for visitors to Springfields.
The tubular motion fountain will shoot jets of water up into the air with two rings of water rising and falling in opposite directions. The fountain can also be held in whatever position is desired, and will be situated in the Willow Pool outside the Fens Discovery Centre.
The Dome of Delight, which will be in the Plaza, conjures up a sphere of mist beautifully illuminated with LED lighting producing exceptionally pure and bright colours. Colours slowly and attractively change and blend through the full spectrum.
The fountains will be in action every two hours and are all set to music and lights. They will also make a splendid finale to the much-loved concerts and firework displays that are held at Springfields throughout the year.
Ian Sanderson, Springfields Director, said: “We hope these new fountains will be a real hit with all visitors and prove to be a further point of difference for Springfields when compared to other shopping, leisure and gardens schemes in the UK. We have sourced the best products on offer the world over and we are eagerly awaiting their installation. We want to continue to develop Springfields as an enjoyable place to visit and for the community to be proud of. The fountains typify the great work we have going here.
“Working seamlessly with the Springfields Horticultural Society we are moving closer to delivering our vision of creating a truly unique retail and leisure environment. The retail sector is in for a tough time this year and we are showing that by being innovative, it is possible to buck the trend.
“Our gardens are very popular with visitors and we and the Society work hard to maintain them and to ensure that they continue to be a wonderful place to be all year round. In addition to the fountains, we are also set to unveil some new gardens in the summer, which we are currently finalising plans for.”
Installation of the fountains is expected to be completed by the end of July. Springfields has commissioned a world renowned manufacturer, based in India, to supply and install the fountains. The company has been serving the global leisure and amusement industry for nearly two decades and is known for creating magic with water and light.
Springfields owner UBS Triton Property Fund is spending £11 million to enhance the centre, including new retail stores, a 43-room feature hotel and new garden attractions all set to open in July 2008. More than 100 jobs will be created once the work is complete.
