FREE Spalding Heritage Weekend on 13th and 14th March
Fenscape – The Fens Discovery Centre at Springfields, Spalding Bulb Museum at Pinchbeck and Ayscoughfee Hall Museum and Gardens have joined forces to put on an exciting weekend of activities across the three sites as part of a FREE Spalding Heritage weekend.
The weekend which is being funded by the Heritage Lottery and coordinated by Fens Forward at Fenscape is aiming to encourage residents and visitors to take in the attractions and explore what they have to offer.
As part of the weekend’s activities, each site will be playing host to live characters in period costumes and children’s activities that all the family can get involved with. And to encourage visitors to take in all three sites, a Heritage Explorers Leaflet has been produced with questions that need to be answered at each of the sites.
What’s more, if all the questions are completed, and the answers are returned to Fenscape people can enter a Prize Draw to win a Family Pass to a Regional Heritage Attraction.
The leaflets have been translated into Russian and Polish too so that new residents to the area can take part in the activities. The leaflets are going to be available from all three sites and the Tourist Information Centre in the South Holland Centre in Town. The closing date for the competition will be September so residents and visitors can still take part if they can’t make it to all three sites during the Heritage Weekend.
Nicola Carr, Fenscape Manager has said of the event,
“We think this is a great way to get people to visit the free attractions that Spalding has to offer and we hope that by translating the leaflets into Russian and Polish that new residents will be encouraged to visit them too and learn about the heritage of the area they now live in”.
THE SPRINGFIELDS GARDEN ANGELS SCHEME.
If you’re interested in gardening and are looking to learn more about horticulture, you can volunteer to
help in the Springfields Horticultural Society Gardens at Springfields by joining the Garden Angels Scheme.
A Garden Angel would join the scheme at Springfields under the supervision of the Head Gardener and his team. Angels can get involved in many different aspects of gardening, helping to keep the gardens looking their best. Activities might range from planting and pruning to collecting seeds and composting.
All that would be required would be a regular commitment of at least a few hours a week, fortnight or month. If you would like to spread your wings and help a little, and at the same time enjoy some
exercise and good companionship contact Springfields Horticultural Society Ltd. on 01775 724843 or email: info@springfields.net
